Romans 8:18 — Meaning & Reflection
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Today's suffering is real, but it cannot measure the glory God has promised.
Background
Paul has just connected believers' inheritance with sharing in Christ's suffering and glory. He now looks ahead to the renewal for which creation and God's children are waiting.
Teaching
Paul does not dismiss suffering or ask us to pretend it hurts less than it does. He places present pain beside the immense glory God will reveal in his people. This promise rests on God's future redemption, not on an assurance that every circumstance will improve today. We can grieve honestly while trusting that suffering will not have the last word.
Reflect
- What suffering do I need to bring honestly before God today?
- How could the promise of future glory help me take my next faithful step?
Prayer
Lord, meet me in the pain I cannot make sense of. Help me hold your promise of glory without hiding my grief from you. Amen.
