Psalm 34:18 — Meaning & Reflection
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Brokenness draws God near rather than pushing Him away.
Background
David wrote this psalm after escaping danger by pretending madness before a Philistine king (see 1 Samuel 21).
Teaching
Pain can make us feel abandoned, but Scripture says God is close to the brokenhearted. He doesn't wait for us to be whole before drawing near — He comes to save the crushed.
Reflect
- Where is my heart broken right now?
- Can I let God be near in that pain?
Prayer
LORD, be near to me in my hurt. Save and heal my crushed spirit. Amen.
