Romans 5:8 — Meaning & Reflection

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8 (NIV)

God loved us at our worst, not our best.

Background

Paul explains that being justified by faith brings peace with God, and that this peace is grounded in Christ's death.

Teaching

People might die for a good person, Paul says — but Christ died for sinners. God didn't wait for us to improve. His love was proven at the cross before we ever responded.

Reflect

Prayer

God, thank You for loving me while I was still a sinner. Let that love humble and change me. Amen.
