Psalm 27:13-14 — Meaning & Reflection
“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord ; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord .”
Waiting on God is an act of courage sustained by hope in his goodness.
Background
Psalm 27, attributed to David, combines confident trust with urgent appeals for God's presence and protection. Its closing verses affirm hope in God's goodness and urge patient courage.
Teaching
The psalmist's hope looks for God's goodness within the life he is living, not only beyond it. Yet that confidence does not eliminate the need to wait. Waiting on the Lord means continuing to seek and trust him when the outcome remains uncertain. Courage grows as we rely on God's sustaining strength rather than demanding that we feel strong already.
Reflect
- Where is waiting testing my confidence in God's goodness?
- What might patient courage look like in that situation today?
Prayer
Lord, strengthen my heart where waiting has made me weary. Help me remain attentive to your goodness and faithful in what you have given me to do. Amen.
