Psalm 28:7 — Meaning & Reflection
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”
Trust becomes thanksgiving when we recognize that the strength carrying us comes from God.
Background
Psalm 28, attributed to David, begins with an urgent plea for God to hear and help. Verse 7 belongs to the psalm's movement into thanksgiving, before its closing prayer for God's people.
Teaching
The images of strength and shield present God as both the source of endurance and the giver of protection. The psalmist responds to help received with heartfelt joy and song. His praise reminds us that dependence on God need not end when an immediate crisis passes. Remembering his care can deepen our trust and make gratitude part of ordinary life.
Reflect
- Where have I received help that I have not yet paused to thank God for?
- How can I express gratitude in a way that is honest rather than forced?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for the ways you have sustained and helped me. Teach me to depend on you and let genuine gratitude find expression in my life. Amen.
