Psalm 25:4-5 — Meaning & Reflection

“Show me your ways, O Lord , teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV)

God's guidance begins with a teachable heart willing to walk at his pace.

Background

Psalm 25, attributed to David, is an alphabetic acrostic prayer that joins requests for guidance, forgiveness, and protection. These verses express dependence on God as both teacher and Saviour.

Teaching

The psalmist asks not only for a destination but for instruction in God's ways. Guidance is therefore about learning to live in God's truth, not simply receiving answers to difficult choices. Waiting on the Lord expresses sustained dependence on the God who saves. We can take the next faithful step while remaining open to his correction and timing.

Reflect

Prayer

Lord, teach me your ways and make my heart willing to follow. Help me trust your truth and wait with patient, active faith. Amen.
