Psalm 23:1-3 — Meaning & Reflection
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”
The sheep's security rests entirely on the character of the Shepherd.
Background
David, once a shepherd himself, wrote this psalm. Shepherds in Israel led, protected, fed, and searched for their flocks.
Teaching
"My shepherd" is personal. Because He leads, I lack nothing I truly need. He gives rest, quiet, and restoration — and He leads along right paths, not for my reputation but for His name. Guidance and rest flow from the same caring hand.
Reflect
- Where do I need my soul restored?
- Am I following the Shepherd or running ahead?
Prayer
Lord, You are my Shepherd. Lead me to rest, restore my soul, and guide me in right paths for Your name's sake. Amen.
