Matthew 6:33 — Meaning & Reflection

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Priorities reveal trust.

Background

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells His listeners not to worry about food or clothing, pointing to the birds and lilies God cares for.

Teaching

Worry focuses on what we lack; seeking the kingdom focuses on who God is. Jesus doesn't say needs don't matter — He says the Father knows them. Putting God first frees us from anxious striving.

Reflect

Prayer

Father, help me seek Your kingdom first. I trust You to provide what I need. Amen.
