Matthew 5:16 — Meaning & Reflection
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Good works point to God, not to ourselves.
Background
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls His followers salt and light, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.
Teaching
Light is meant to be seen. Jesus isn't calling for showiness but visibility — lives of goodness that cause others to praise the Father rather than us.
Reflect
- Where might my light be hidden?
- What good work can I do today that points to God?
Prayer
Father, let my life shine so that others see Your goodness and give You glory. Amen.
