Mark 1:14-15 — Meaning & Reflection

“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"”

Mark 1:14-15 (NIV)

God’s kingdom draws near with an invitation to turn around and trust the good news.

Background

Mark places the beginning of Jesus’ Galilean preaching after John’s imprisonment. This announcement follows Jesus’ baptism and temptation and introduces his public ministry.

Teaching

Jesus announces that God’s promised time has arrived and his kingdom is near. The fitting response is repentance: turning from sin and reorienting life toward God. Believing the gospel means trusting the good news Jesus brings, rather than merely acknowledging it. God’s approach is an invitation to receive his rule as hope and let it reshape our daily choices.

Reflect

Prayer

Father, help me recognize the hope of your kingdom in Jesus. Give me a willing heart to turn from sin and trust your good news today. Amen.
