Leviticus 26:11-13 — Meaning & Reflection
“I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.”
The God who breaks the yoke of bondage calls his people to walk in the freedom of his presence.
Background
Leviticus 26 sets out covenant blessings for obedience and warnings about disobedience. These verses conclude the blessings by recalling Israel’s deliverance from Egypt and promising God’s presence among his people.
Teaching
The greatest blessing described here is not abundance but fellowship with God. He reminds Israel that he freed them from slavery so they could live as his people. These covenant promises are not a guarantee that faithful people will avoid hardship. They reveal the God whose saving purpose brings freedom, belonging, and restored dignity, a purpose fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Reflect
- Do I seek God’s presence as earnestly as I seek his gifts?
- Where do I need to learn to live as someone who belongs to God rather than to fear?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for drawing me into fellowship with you through Christ. Help me walk in the freedom you give and remember that I belong to you. Amen.
