Numbers 6:24-26 — Meaning & Reflection
“" ' "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." '”
God’s blessing is the gift of his gracious attention, faithful keeping, and sustaining peace.
Background
The Lord instructs Moses to give Aaron and his sons these words for blessing Israel. The following verse explains that the priests will put God’s name upon the people, and God himself will bless them.
Teaching
This blessing places every hope in the Lord rather than in human strength. His shining face pictures his favor and gracious attention toward his people. His peace is more than a quiet moment; it includes the wholeness of life held in relationship with him. We can receive these words prayerfully without assuming that God’s care removes every difficulty.
Reflect
- Where do I most need to entrust myself to God’s keeping today?
- How might remembering God’s gracious attention change the way I meet this day?
Prayer
Lord, I receive this day as someone who needs your grace and care. Keep me near you, and let your peace shape my thoughts and actions. Amen.
