John 14:6 — Meaning & Reflection
“Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus does not merely show the way to God; he welcomes us to the Father through himself.
Background
In John's Gospel, Jesus speaks these words during his farewell conversation with the disciples before his arrest. Thomas has just asked how they can know the way to where Jesus is going.
Teaching
Jesus answers Thomas's uncertainty by directing him to a person, not a map. As the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus reveals the Father and brings us into fellowship with him. Our hope rests not in finding our own path to God, but in trusting the Son who brings us near. Today, we can bring our unanswered questions to him and follow what he has already made clear.
Reflect
- Where am I asking for certainty when Jesus is inviting me to trust him?
- What would following Jesus look like in one decision before me today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I trust you to bring me near to the Father. Help me follow you with a willing heart, even when I cannot see the whole way. Amen.
