John 14:1-3 — Meaning & Reflection
“"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Our lasting hope is not merely a place prepared, but life forever in the presence of Jesus.
Background
These words belong to Jesus’ farewell teaching on the night before his crucifixion. After speaking of his departure and predicting Peter’s denial, he comforts his troubled disciples with a promise of reunion.
Teaching
Jesus meets troubled hearts with an invitation to trust both the Father and himself. His Father’s house has room for his people, and his departure will not end their belonging to him. The heart of the promise is his personal welcome: they will be where he is. Our future rests in his faithfulness, giving us hope while we face today’s uncertainty.
Reflect
- What trouble do I need to entrust to Jesus rather than carry alone?
- How might the promise of being with him change the way I live today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, steady my troubled heart with the promise of your presence. Help me trust your faithfulness today and rest in the hope of being with you forever. Amen.
