John 14:27 — Meaning & Reflection
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jesus' peace doesn't depend on calm circumstances.
Background
Jesus speaks these words on His last night with His disciples, hours before His arrest.
Teaching
The world's peace is the absence of trouble; Jesus' peace is His presence in trouble. He gives it as a gift, then invites us to guard our hearts from fear.
Reflect
- Where do I need Jesus' peace today?
- What troubles my heart that I can bring to Him?
Prayer
Jesus, I receive Your peace. Calm my troubled heart and quiet my fears. Amen.
