Psalm 51:10 — Meaning & Reflection
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Only God can create a new heart; we can ask Him to.
Background
David wrote this after the prophet Nathan confronted him about his sin with Bathsheba.
Teaching
"Create" is the same word used in Genesis 1 — something only God does. David doesn't ask for a cleaned-up reputation but a new heart and steady spirit. Real repentance asks God for inner renewal.
Reflect
- What in my heart needs cleansing?
- Am I asking God to renew me, not just fix my circumstances?
Prayer
God, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Amen.
