John 10:27-30 — Meaning & Reflection
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all ; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."”
Our deepest security rests in the faithful hands of the Son and the Father.
Background
During the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, Jesus is asked to say plainly whether he is the Christ. He answers by pointing to his works and describing the relationship between himself and his sheep.
Teaching
Jesus’ sheep are known by him, listen to his voice, and follow him. Their eternal life is his gift, not an achievement they must manufacture. The image of the Son’s and Father’s hands expresses powerful, united care that no enemy can overcome. This assurance invites us to follow with confidence rather than live as though we were forgotten or unprotected.
Reflect
- What fear makes it difficult for me to rest in God’s care?
- How can I attend to Jesus’ voice through his word today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for knowing me and holding me in your care. Quiet my fear and help me follow your voice with confidence. Amen.
