Acts 20:32 — Meaning & Reflection

“"Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Acts 20:32 (NIV)

When familiar support falls away, God and the word of his grace remain able to sustain us.

Background

At Miletus, Paul gives a farewell address to the elders of the church in Ephesus. After warning them about coming dangers, he entrusts them to God and to the message of his grace.

Teaching

Paul knows he cannot remain with these believers, but their future does not rest on his presence. God is able to strengthen them through the word of his grace. The promised inheritance places their lives within God's lasting purpose for his holy people. We can receive faithful human care with gratitude while grounding our deepest confidence in God himself.

Reflect

Prayer

Father, I entrust my future and the people I love to your care. Build me up through your word and steady my heart in the inheritance you promise your people. Amen.
