Ruth 2:12 — Meaning & Reflection
“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord , the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge."”
Taking refuge under God’s wings opens our hearts to receive care and become instruments of care for others.
Background
Ruth is gleaning in Boaz’s field to provide food for herself and Naomi. Having heard of her loyalty and departure from Moab, Boaz blesses her and provides practical protection and generosity.
Teaching
Boaz describes Ruth’s trust in Israel’s God through the tender image of sheltering wings. His blessing recognizes her costly faithfulness without making God’s care a transaction. Boaz also helps provide the refuge he asks God to give. The passage invites us both to seek shelter in God and to make his kindness tangible to vulnerable neighbors.
Reflect
- Where do I need to receive God’s care rather than carry everything alone?
- Whose need could I answer with practical kindness today?
Prayer
Lord, help me take refuge in your faithful care. Make me attentive to the needs around me and generous with what I can offer. Amen.
