Daily Teaching
Matthew 6:34 — Meaning & Reflection
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
You do not have to carry tomorrow’s troubles in order to be faithful today.
Background
This verse concludes Jesus’ teaching about anxiety in the Sermon on the Mount. Just before it, he directs his hearers to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness, trusting their Father with their needs.
Teaching
Jesus acknowledges that each day has real trouble; he does not ask us to pretend otherwise. He teaches us not to add imagined future burdens to the demands already before us. Wise preparation has its place, but worry cannot make tomorrow secure. Trust grows as we seek God’s kingdom in the present and leave the future in his care.
Reflect
- What trouble from tomorrow am I carrying as though it must be solved today?
- What would faithfulness look like in the next small task before me?
Prayer
Father, help me release the future I keep trying to control. Give me grace to meet today’s responsibilities and trust you with tomorrow. Amen.
