Matthew 19:26 — Meaning & Reflection
“Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."”
Where our ability reaches its limit, God’s saving grace remains unhindered.
Background
After a wealthy young man leaves sorrowfully, Jesus teaches how difficult it is for the rich to enter the kingdom. The disciples ask who can be saved, and Jesus answers by pointing to God’s power.
Teaching
Jesus directs our hope away from human achievement and toward God. Neither wealth nor moral effort can secure the salvation we need. What we cannot accomplish, God can bring about through his grace. This verse invites confidence in his saving power, not certainty that every personal wish will be fulfilled.
Reflect
- Where am I relying on my own goodness or resources to make myself secure before God?
- How can I entrust someone’s seemingly impossible spiritual situation to God today?
Prayer
Father, I cannot save myself or change another person’s heart by my own strength. Teach me to rest in your grace and trust your power where my ability ends. Amen.
