Mark 5:34 — Meaning & Reflection
“He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."”
Jesus sees more than our suffering; he meets us with dignity, tenderness, and peace.
Background
While Jesus is traveling to Jairus’s house, a woman who has suffered bleeding for twelve years touches his garment and is healed. After she comes forward trembling and tells him the truth, Jesus addresses her as daughter.
Teaching
Jesus does not allow this woman’s encounter with him to remain an anonymous moment of healing. He speaks to her tenderly, acknowledging her faith and sending her away in peace. Her trust rests in his power; it is not a technique for controlling him. This account invites us to bring our suffering to Jesus without treating continuing illness as proof of inadequate faith.
Reflect
- What long-carried suffering do I need to bring honestly to Jesus?
- How might his tenderness toward this woman reshape the way I believe he sees me?
Prayer
Jesus, I bring you my pain and the weariness of waiting. Help me trust your tender care and receive my dignity from you, whatever the course of healing may be. Amen.
