Malachi 4:2 — Meaning & Reflection
“But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.”
For those who honor God, the coming dawn holds healing rather than endless darkness.
Background
Malachi’s closing chapter contrasts judgment on the wicked with healing and joy for those who fear the Lord. The image of the rising sun answers the earlier complaint that serving God makes no difference.
Teaching
God assures those who honor him that evil will not define the future forever. The rising sun pictures righteousness bringing healing, while calves released from a stall convey renewed freedom and joy. Christians have long read this image in the light of Christ, whose coming brings salvation and the promise of full restoration. We wait for that fullness with reverent hope, not with a demand that every wound heal immediately.
Reflect
- Where do I need hope that God’s righteousness will have the final word?
- How can I honor God today while waiting for healing I cannot yet see?
Prayer
Lord, turn my heart toward the hope of your coming light. Help me honor you in the waiting and trust your promise of healing and restoration. Amen.
