Luke 1:37-38 — Meaning & Reflection
“For nothing is impossible with God." "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.”
Faith can say yes to God before it understands how the whole story will unfold.
Background
In Luke’s opening chapter, Gabriel announces that Mary will bear Jesus and explains that his conception will be through the Holy Ghost. He also tells her of Elizabeth’s unexpected pregnancy before Mary responds in trust.
Teaching
The assurance of God’s power belongs here to his promise to bring the Saviour into the world. It is not a guarantee that every personal wish will come true. Mary responds by entrusting herself to God’s word without receiving a detailed account of everything ahead. Her faith invites us to obey what God makes clear while trusting him with what remains unknown.
Reflect
- Where am I waiting for complete certainty before taking a faithful step?
- What promise or teaching of God can steady me in the unknown?
Prayer
Lord, I trust that your power is greater than what I can understand. Give me a willing heart to follow your word and leave the unfolding story with you. Amen.
