Galatians 6:7-10 — Meaning & Reflection
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Small acts of Spirit-led faithfulness matter, even when the harvest is not yet visible.
Background
Near the end of Galatians, Paul gives practical instruction about restoring others, bearing burdens, and sharing resources. His sowing-and-reaping imagery continues the letter's contrast between life directed by the flesh and life directed by the Spirit.
Teaching
Our choices matter because what we cultivate shapes the direction of our lives. Sowing to the flesh nurtures sin's destructive desires, while sowing to the Spirit follows God's life-giving work. Paul encourages perseverance without suggesting that eternal life can be purchased by good deeds. Trust in God takes practical form as we keep doing good to everyone, with particular care for fellow believers.
Reflect
- What am I regularly cultivating through my habits and choices?
- Where do I need God's strength to continue doing good without immediate results?
Prayer
Father, help me recognize what I am sowing in my daily life. Strengthen me to follow your Spirit and keep loving others when I cannot yet see the fruit. Amen.
