Acts 3:19 — Meaning & Reflection
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,”
Repentance turns us toward the God who forgives sin and promises refreshment in his presence.
Background
Peter speaks to a crowd at the Jerusalem temple after a man unable to walk from birth is healed. He points them to Jesus and connects repentance with forgiveness and God's promised restoration.
Teaching
Peter calls his hearers to turn toward God rather than remain in the sin he has confronted. The image of sins being blotted out speaks of real forgiveness, not merely a lighter burden of guilt. The promised refreshing comes from the Lord's presence, and the surrounding verses look ahead to Christ's return and restoration. Repentance therefore carries hope: we turn toward the God who forgives and will make things right.
Reflect
- What do I need to turn away from so that I can turn more fully toward God?
- How does God's promise of forgiveness change the way I approach him today?
Prayer
Merciful Father, I confess my sin and turn toward you. Thank you for your forgiveness, and sustain me with hope in the restoration you have promised. Amen.
