Psalm 90:12 — Meaning & Reflection
“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Wisdom grows when we receive our limited days as gifts to spend in the light of God's eternity.
Background
Psalm 90 is titled a prayer of Moses, the man of God. It contrasts God's eternity with human frailty and mortality, then asks for wisdom, mercy, and lasting value in human work.
Teaching
Numbering our days means acknowledging that our time is limited and precious. This awareness is meant to deepen wisdom, not trap us in anxiety. We need God to teach us how to live because busyness alone cannot tell us what matters. In His presence, ordinary decisions become opportunities to love faithfully and use today's gifts well.
Reflect
- What deserves more of my attention in light of life's brevity?
- How could I use one part of today with greater love and intention?
Prayer
Eternal God, teach me to receive this day with humility and gratitude. Give me wisdom to spend my time on what matters to You. Amen.
