Psalm 62:5-8 — Meaning & Reflection

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah”

Psalm 62:5-8 (NIV)

Waiting on God is not hiding your heart; it is pouring it out where true strength can hold it.

Background

Psalm 62 is attributed to David and contrasts God's reliability with threatening people, human status, and wealth. These verses move from the psalmist's instruction to his own soul toward an invitation for the whole community to trust.

Teaching

The psalmist directs his hope toward God rather than toward circumstances he can control. His confidence rests on who God is: rock, salvation, and refuge. Yet this steady trust leaves room for pouring out every fear and sorrow. Waiting faithfully means bringing our hearts to God while relying on His strength rather than our own.

Reflect

Prayer

God, I confess how quickly I look elsewhere for security. Help me wait for You with an honest heart and a growing confidence in Your faithfulness. Amen.
