Psalm 31:19 — Meaning & Reflection
“How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.”
God’s goodness is greater than the trouble we can see and deeper than the hope we can hold.
Background
Attributed to David, Psalm 31 moves through distress, pleas for rescue, and renewed confidence in God. Verse 19 celebrates God’s goodness amid a larger testimony of refuge and deliverance.
Teaching
The psalmist marvels at goodness that God both stores up and reveals through his care. Fearing God means approaching him with reverence, while trusting him means placing our lives in his hands. This goodness does not make suffering unreal; it gives us reason to hope within it. We can entrust what remains hidden to the God whose character is faithful.
Reflect
- Where have I noticed God’s goodness during a difficult season?
- What uncertainty can I entrust to him today?
Prayer
Father, open my eyes to your goodness when my worries narrow my vision. Teach me to reverence you and rest in your faithful care. Amen.
