Psalm 100:1-4 — Meaning & Reflection

“Shout for joy to the Lord , all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his ; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Psalm 100:1-4 (NIV)

Gratitude deepens when you remember that you are not self-made or forgotten, but created and cared for by God.

Background

Psalm 100 is titled a psalm of praise and summons all lands to worship the Lord. Its references to gates and courts evoke entry into the sanctuary, while its shepherd imagery emphasizes belonging to God.

Teaching

Joyful worship begins with recognizing who God is and whose we are. We owe our existence to Him, and His shepherding care gives us reason to approach with gratitude. Glad service is a response to belonging, not an attempt to earn it. Even on difficult days, we can begin with a simple acknowledgment of His care and let thanksgiving turn our attention toward Him.

Reflect

Prayer

Lord, thank You for making me and receiving me into Your care. Open my eyes to Your gifts and help me serve You with a willing, grateful heart. Amen.
