Daily Teaching
Matthew 7:24-25 — Meaning & Reflection
“"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
A steady life grows where hearing Jesus becomes daily obedience.
Background
Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with a contrast between two builders. Both hear his words, but only the wise builder puts them into practice.
Teaching
The wise builder’s security lies in the foundation, not in favorable weather. Jesus does not promise his followers a life without storms; he calls them to build on his teaching. Hearing becomes a firm foundation as we put his words into practice. Such obedience expresses trust in the Lord whose authority can sustain us through trials and final judgment.
Reflect
- Which teaching of Jesus do I understand but struggle to practice?
- What small act of obedience would help me build on his words today?
Prayer
Jesus, help me become a doer of your words, not only a hearer. Strengthen my trust in you and make my daily choices a faithful response to your teaching. Amen.
