Mark 11:24-25 — Meaning & Reflection
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."”
Prayer opens our hands to God’s power and loosens our grip on another person’s debt.
Background
After the disciples notice that the fig tree Jesus cursed has withered, he teaches them about faith in God. His instruction joins confident prayer with the call to forgive.
Teaching
Jesus invites bold prayer rooted in confidence that God hears and acts. This is not a technique for controlling outcomes, but an invitation to trust the Father’s power and wisdom. He also refuses to separate our relationship with God from our treatment of others. Forgiveness releases personal vengeance without denying harm or removing the need for wise boundaries.
Reflect
- What concern can I bring honestly to God while trusting his wisdom with the outcome?
- Whose wrong am I holding tightly, and what might a first step toward forgiveness look like?
Prayer
Father, help me pray with confidence in your goodness rather than confidence in my own control. As I seek your mercy, help me release resentment and walk in wisdom. Amen.
