Joshua 3:5 — Meaning & Reflection
“Joshua told the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you."”
Preparing our hearts for God begins with surrender, not with knowing what tomorrow will bring.
Background
Israel is camped beside the Jordan, preparing to cross into the promised land. Joshua calls the people to consecrate themselves before the Lord makes a way through the river.
Teaching
Joshua asks the people to set themselves apart for the holy God who will act among them. Their preparation does not earn the miracle; the crossing depends on God’s power and promise. For us, this invitation encourages repentance, reverence, and readiness to obey. We need not demand a wonder tomorrow to entrust ourselves to God today.
Reflect
- What do I need to surrender as I prepare to follow God?
- How can I approach tomorrow with reverence rather than a demand for certainty?
Prayer
Lord, search my heart and help me turn from whatever draws me away from you. Make me ready to follow your leading, even when I cannot see the way ahead. Amen.
