Isaiah 6:3 — Meaning & Reflection
“And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."”
God’s holiness humbles us, while his glory teaches us to look beyond ourselves in wonder.
Background
Isaiah 6 records the prophet’s vision of the Lord in the year King Uzziah died. The seraphim proclaim God’s holiness before Isaiah confesses his uncleanness, receives cleansing, and is commissioned.
Teaching
The repeated declaration of holiness emphasizes God’s incomparable purity and majesty. His glory fills the earth, extending beyond the temple setting of Isaiah’s vision. Encountering this holy God exposes human sin, but the surrounding passage also reveals his cleansing mercy. Worship therefore invites both humility and hope as we turn our attention from ourselves to him.
Reflect
- How might remembering God’s holiness change the way I approach him today?
- Where can I pause to notice a sign of his glory in the world around me?
Prayer
Holy Lord, quiet my self-importance and awaken my wonder before you. Cleanse my heart and teach me to worship with reverence and trust. Amen.
