Daily Teaching
Galatians 2:20 — Meaning & Reflection
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
The Christian life is not solitary striving but daily trust in the Son of God who loved and gave himself.
Background
Paul recounts his confrontation with Peter over withdrawing from table fellowship with Gentile believers. In the surrounding argument, he explains that people are justified through faith in Christ rather than works of the law.
Teaching
Paul describes a life so joined to Jesus that Christ's death and life reshape his own identity. His old basis for righteousness has been surrendered, and his present life depends on Christ. This dependence does not erase his personhood; it gives his daily living a new center. The foundation is deeply personal: the Son of God loved him and gave himself for him.
Reflect
- Where am I trying to secure God's acceptance through my own performance?
- How might remembering Christ's personal love change one ordinary decision today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank you for loving me and giving yourself for me. Teach me to depend on you and let your life shape my choices today. Amen.
