Daniel 6:26-27 — Meaning & Reflection
“"I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. "For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."”
The God who held Daniel among lions remains steadfast when everything around us feels uncertain.
Background
After Daniel survives the lions’ den, King Darius issues a decree honoring Daniel’s God. This royal confession follows Daniel’s refusal to abandon prayer despite a law forbidding it.
Teaching
Darius recognizes that God’s kingdom outlasts every earthly ruler. Daniel’s rescue reveals a living God who acts, rather than an idol dependent on human protection. This account does not promise that faithfulness will always spare us suffering, but it invites us to trust God’s enduring power. We can remain faithful because our lives belong to a kingdom that cannot be destroyed.
Reflect
- Where am I tempted to compromise faithfulness because I feel afraid?
- How might God’s enduring kingdom reshape my response to today’s uncertainty?
Prayer
Living God, help me remain faithful when fear presses close. I place my life in your hands and trust your kingdom above every earthly power. Amen.
