1 Corinthians 13:4-5 — Meaning & Reflection

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NIV)

Love is described by how it acts, not how it feels.

Background

Corinth's church valued spiritual gifts but was divided and proud. Paul shows that without love, every gift is empty.

Teaching

Love is patient and kind. Each phrase describes a choice: patience, kindness, humility, restraint. These words describe Jesus perfectly and become our pattern as he loves through us.

Reflect

Prayer

Lord, make my love patient and kind. Free me from envy, pride, and resentment. Love others through me. Amen.
